The FREDENSTEIN ARTISTIC LEVELER is particularly gentle at low ratios and seems to improve anything it acts upon. The attack time can be set in three steps and the side chain low-cut filter offers two settings. There is also a switch for Bypass and another for Link. The LED bar graph meter indicates gain reduction in the range of 1 dB to 16 dB.\u003cbr\u003eLike many opto compressors, the FREDENSTEIN ARTISTIC LEVELER features a fixed threshold. Compression depth is controlled by changing the input gain. Opto compressors could be characterized as generally soft and gentle compared to FET compressors which can be fast and aggressive; however, the control range of this machine opens many other doors.
