AKAI Professional APC40 MKII Controller for Ableton
Estimated delivery in Italy between 17 and 19 August
Since 2009, AKAI Professional has been working fruitfully with Ableton Live developers, and this partnership led to the creation of the Ableton Performance Controller, the APC40 USB MIDI Controller. The new APC40 MKII is therefore based on five years of feedback from users around the world, which has allowed for a review and improvement of functions and the addition of extended features to ensure a smoother and more immediate user experience. In addition to a more modern, thinner, and less bulky design, users of the APC series will immediately notice the clip control grid, which uses multi-color (RGB) backlit rubber pads, and the different arrangement of the knobs, which, like the faders, are more robust to the touch. The AKAI Pro APC40 MKII layout mirrors that of an 8-channel mixer plus a master. Each channel strip provides a robust fader, buttons for channel activation/deactivation, track arming, crossfader assignment (A/B), and channel selector, as well as a larger rectangular button for channel activation/deactivation with dual functionality via the Shift function for selecting the project quantization value. Moving upwards, each channel has a "Stop Clip" button, 5 RGB backlit pads, and a rotary potentiometer surrounded by a ring of LEDs that displays the value of the controlled parameter. This rotary potentiometer will control, depending on the selected bank, the pan, the send, and everything we configure in the User bank.
On the Master channel, in addition to the fader, there is a rotary potentiometer for controlling the pre-listen volume, a button for switching the channel on/off, a pad for stopping all clips, and 5 pads for playing the scenes of the selected clip matrix. For remote control of devices (effects and virtual instruments loaded on the channels), there is a section with 8 rotary controls operating on multiple banks that automatically map once the device is selected using the arrow keys that allow scrolling through the effects loaded on the channel. As is traditional with APC, in this section too, each potentiometer offers the classic visual feedback of the value of each parameter via the LED ring that surrounds it. As in the previous model, we find the crossfader, a "Tempo" potentiometer for setting the speed in BPM, the Tap Tempo button, two Nudge + and - buttons, to simulate pitch bending, and the button to activate/deactivate the metronome. The APC 40MKII is naturally pre-mapped to work simultaneously with Ableton Live software. Connected to the computer via USB, the physical controls of the hardware correspond precisely to those of the software's virtual layout. This does not mean that you cannot use customized mappings as you wish: being a MIDI controller, you can freely reprogram the mapping according to your production or live performance needs. The Akai Professional APC40 MKII is a plug-n-play USB/MIDI peripheral that is powered directly via the computer's USB port, all features that allow it to be used anywhere.
