16-pad MIDI Controller
The AKAI PROFESSIONAL MPD218 is a 16-pad MIDI controller with thick, velocity- and aftertouch-sensitive pads to satisfy the most demanding finger drumming enthusiasts, featuring red backlighting on the first pad.
The rotary potentiometers, like the pads, are configurable across multiple banks to allow control of numerous software parameters by switching between banks. MPC series functions are also available, from Note Repeat with programmable swing to Full Level, which cancels velocity response when needed.
Programming of MIDI messages sent by each physical control (pads, potentiometers, faders, etc.) can be done via a dedicated software editor. The following software is provided free of charge via download: Ableton Live Lite and the Sonivox Big Bang Drums and Big Bang Cinema virtual instruments. The MPD2 series controllers are powered directly via USB, so no external power supplies are required.
