38-channel Digital Mixer
The ALLEN & HEATH QU-32 CHROME is a 38-channel digital mixer with a responsive touchscreen, 33 motorized faders, and acclaimed recallable AnalogiQTM preamps, combining exceptional ease of use with class-leading audio performance.
The 32 AnalogiQTM preamps of the ALLEN & HEATH QU-32 CHROME have gain adjustable in 1 dB steps and DSP precision to achieve the same high transparency and musicality of analog mixers. The high-quality 24-bit low-latency AD converters ensure minimum background noise for a digital mixer.
An 800 x 480 sixteen-million-color touchscreen and encoders with dedicated controls form the heart of the ALLEN & HEATH QU-32 CHROME's interface, providing easy and super-fast access to all menus. The user-friendly interface has been designed with dedicated keys, and the screens guide the display of RTA, FX, channel processing, USB audio control, scenes, setup menus, and much more.
The processing of each channel (IN/OUT) features a very simple SuperStrip layout with one (and only one!) function per encoder. The approach is always twofold: analog with dedicated encoders or digital via the touchscreen, but without complex menu structures. The processing of Mono and Stereo inputs includes trim, polarity, HPF, gate, insert, 4-band parametric EQ, compressor, and delay.
The ALLEN & HEATH QU-32 CHROME features 33 motorized ALPS faders, 32 arranged in two layers, allowing immediate access to all input channels and master mix in a compact space, plus a dedicated master fader that follows the mix selection. In addition, a third layer is available that is custom-made by the user, with any combination of inputs, FX sends and returns, and master mix. On the ALLEN & HEATH QU-32 CHROME, simply press a button and the input channel faders work on the send for that mix.
The dynamics of the ALLEN & HEATH QU-32 and the effects algorithms are derived from those used in the iLive pro series. It is worth noting that some of the most respected sound engineers in the world have chosen to use iLive effects rather than external FX units. The ALLEN & HEATH QU-32 incorporates 4 stereo effects engines, with handcrafted emulations of legendary reverbs, gated reverbs, delays, modulators, flangers, and more. The FX library has the ability to be implemented with future firmware versions. The effects have dedicated return channels, so no mono or stereo input channels are occupied. Each FX return has a dedicated 4-band parametric EQ.
The ALLEN & HEATH QU-32 saves and recalls scenes at the touch of a button and can store up to 100 scenes per Show. Channels and mixes can be Safed from scenes: for example, if an instrument or microphone is swapped after soundcheck, the channel can be Safed to prevent the scene from recalling the saved settings. Or if an iPod is added at the last minute before the show, that mix or channel can be Safed from any scene change. In addition, individual parameter updates can be locked using Recall Filter or Global Recall Filter. So, if you optimize the graphic EQ for a venue's frequency response once the audience has entered, you can lock this parameter to prevent it from being overwritten in case of a scene change. The parameters of each EQ, compressor, channel, or effect can be saved as presets in the Library. This allows you to store the EQ of an SM58 or a tried-and-true reverb and apply it to other channels or subsequent shows. Libraries, scenes, and shows can be saved to a USB stick, so you can take the show with you, ready to use on another Qu-24 or Qu-16.
The ALLEN & HEATH QU-32 can be a 32-channel multi-track audio interface for a Mac. Returns from the Mac can be assigned to mono and stereo channels. The interface is natively compatible with Mac OS X, which means it's truly plug 'n play, with no drivers to install. It will be recognized immediately by any Core Audio-supported DAW, including Logic, Cubase, Reaper, and Pro Tools. Standard MIDI control is possible via the USB connection so you can map the faders to DAW tracks. Alternatively, MIDI control is available via the Ethernet port.
