The APOGEE SYMPHONY I/O 16X16 MKII THUNDERBOLT is a multi-channel audio interface featuring an unimaginable new level of Apogee AD/DA conversion, a modular 16-input and output I/O system, and an intuitive touchscreen display, designed to deliver professional quality for audio recording, mixing, and mastering. With two converter module slots and the capacity for up to 32 A/D and D/A conversion inputs and outputs per unit, the APOGEE SYMPHONY I/O 16X16 MKII THUNDERBOLT offers the best value per channel of any interface in its category.
The APOGEE SYMPHONY I/O 16X16 MKII THUNDERBOLT is equipped with Thunderbolt connections for linking to a Mac and use with any Core Audio compatible DAW, such as Logic Pro X, with latency below 1.35 ms in Logic Pro X (96kHz / 32 buffer) or others.
All main input and output settings of the APOGEE SYMPHONY I/O 16X16 MKII THUNDERBOLT are accessible from the new touchscreen front panel, allowing you to change input type, monitor levels, adjust Mic Pre gain, or calibrate the Symphony I/O Mk II to match the levels of analog equipment in your setup. The high-resolution TFT display provides practical visual feedback during recording and listening phases. Without needing to look at the computer screen, the APOGEE SYMPHONY I/O 16X16 MKII THUNDERBOLT allows you to keep an eye on up to 64 channels of I/O (32 IN x 32 OUT), and control key parameters such as signal levels, polarity, mute, phantom power, and Soft Limit.
The APOGEE SYMPHONY I/O 16X16 MKII THUNDERBOLT features an advanced control system that allows it to operate at the ideal temperature, ensuring maximum performance and reliability. The temperature control system is complemented by a new improved fan and a redesigned chassis that silently cool the components.
The new Symphony Control software has been rebuilt from scratch and replaces Apogee's Maestro software for the APOGEE SYMPHONY I/O 16X16 MKII THUNDERBOLT. Symphony Control offers all of Maestro's features in a new, highly customizable user interface, with innovative functionalities such as Talkback, Surround Sound for 5.1, 7.1, 9.1 AMBEO, and 11.1 ATMOS monitoring, the simplified "Essentials" control window, and the FX Send mixer functionality, recently introduced also in the Element Control software.
Apogee Control provides immediate access to input and output levels, using the large control knob and 3 Symphony-inspired selection buttons, plus direct access to a wide range of software functions using the 8 user-customizable buttons. The Apogee Control hardware remote connects directly to your Mac using the included USB cable.
Users of the APOGEE SYMPHONY I/O 16X16 MKII THUNDERBOLT can now use 2 units simultaneously, to achieve up to 64 channels of input and output with Thunderbolt connection to their Mac. The APOGEE SYMPHONY I/O 16X16 MKII THUNDERBOLT combined with Logic Pro and a Mac computer creates the most advanced native workstation available today, with a high number of superior quality recording channels and incredibly low latency.
From the touchscreen front panel, you can set the APOGEE SYMPHONY I/O 16X16 MKII THUNDERBOLT to use Apogee's flagship AD/DA conversion with Windows DAW workstations, digital consoles, and even Hi-Fi systems. Standalone mode allows you to connect the APOGEE SYMPHONY I/O 16X16 MKII THUNDERBOLT to the digital I/Os of these devices to bypass their AD/DA converters and use Apogee's.
The analog stage in the 8x8 and 16x16 modules uses the same differential op-amps found in the first version of Symphony I/O, but the circuit has been further simplified to provide the most transparent signal path possible. The Dual Sum A/D stage, where two conversion states are summed for each analog channel, offers the lowest distortion and highest dynamic range compared to any other converter ever designed.
The D/A section of the APOGEE SYMPHONY I/O 16X16 MKII THUNDERBOLT has been optimized with a more robust and powerful output path. The new high-voltage, low-impedance circuit can drive virtually any input without any reduction in performance, regardless of the load presented by the connected device. This feature is particularly advantageous when connecting vintage devices with difficult load impedances or high operating levels, or via long cables.
The headphone output of the APOGEE SYMPHONY I/O 16X16 MKII THUNDERBOLT features Apogee's new Constant Current Drive technology (first introduced in Groove), where the output stage dynamically compensates for the non-linear response, caused by mechanical or acoustic defects, of any headphone, also reducing distortion and making the frequency response more linear.
The 32-bit ESS Sabre32 DAC with Time Domain Jitter Eliminator technology offers an unparalleled dynamic range, extremely low distortion, and unprecedented jitter-free audio clarity at the input.
The proprietary driver for the APOGEE SYMPHONY I/O 16X16 MKII THUNDERBOLT includes the revolutionary Direct Memory Access (DMA) engine for efficient reading and writing of data directly from Mac memory, completely independent of the CPU.
The APOGEE SYMPHONY I/O 16X16 MKII THUNDERBOLT includes the Apogee Network Control software which provides remote access to all interface settings. From the computer, you can calibrate all channels, set monitor output levels, select the analog level type, adjust microphone preamplifier gain, and more. Drag and drop and color coding configuration allows you to create custom settings screens to view up to 6 devices in a single window. Apogee Network Control works with Mac OS X and Windows 10 and is compatible with the Apogee Control remote controller.
