Arturia MiniFreak
Estimated delivery in Italy between 25 and 27 August
Arturia MiniFreak represents the evolution of the Freak concept into a more structured, powerful, and polyphony-oriented form. Its architecture is designed to offer deep control over sound generation, timbre shaping, and sound movement, while maintaining an immediate and performance-friendly interface.
ARTURIA MINIFREAK SOUND GENERATION
The heart of MiniFreak consists of two independent digital engines for each of the six voices. Each voice can use a single engine or a combination of the two, with layering possibilities or serial processing, where the second engine processes the output of the first. This structure allows for the generation of complex, dynamic, and nonlinear timbres, difficult to achieve with traditional architectures. MiniFreak offers over 30 sound generation modes, including wavetable, virtual analog, FM, ring modulation, harmonic synthesis, Karplus-Strong, noise, vocal modes, samples, and granular. The variety of engines allows for covering both classic synthesis territories and more experimental and contemporary realms, making the instrument suitable for sound design, electronic composition, and modern production.
FILTERS AND ANALOG STAGE
The six digital voices converge into polyphonic state-variable analog filters, alongside analog VCAs. The filters operate in low-pass, band-pass, and high-pass modes, allowing for precise and musical timbre shaping. The use of a real analog stage guarantees a natural dynamic response, effective resonance management, and a smooth transition between clean sounds and more aggressive characters. The interaction between digital generation and analog filtering allows for preserving the definition and complexity of the sources, while adding depth, body, and organic behavior to the final sound.
MODULATIONS, LFOs AND ENVELOPES
MiniFreak's modulation architecture is extensive and designed for deep control of sound movement. Each voice has a polyphonic ADSR envelope and a cyclical envelope usable as a second LFO, alongside two LFOs per voice with customizable waveforms. The modulation matrix allows connecting 7 sources to numerous destinations, facilitating the creation of continuously evolving sounds. The Spice & Dice functions allow for introducing controlled variations and musical randomness into modulation parameters and sequences, encouraging generative approaches and dynamic patterns without losing musical control.
MINIFREAK VOCODER BY ARTURIA
MiniFreak integrates a 16-band vocoder directly into its synthesis engine, making the voice a true sound source within the instrument's architecture. The vocoder can use the two digital engines per voice as carriers, allowing the vocal signal to be blended with wavetable, virtual analog synthesis, FM, and other internal algorithms, generating articulate, metallic, or strongly characterized vocal timbres. Formant control and interaction with polyphonic analog filters, envelopes, LFOs, and the modulation matrix allow for shaping the vocoder's behavior in a deep and musical way, going beyond traditional "robot voice" use. The vocoded signal can also be further sculpted using the integrated stereo effects section, making MiniFreak suitable for creative vocal applications, experimental sound design, and live performance.
SEQUENCER, ARPEGGIATOR AND EFFECTS
Arturia MiniFreak integrates a 64-step sequencer organized into four pages of 16 steps, with four automation tracks for real-time parameter modulation. The performance-oriented arpeggiator offers advanced controls such as Ratchet, Octave Randomize, and Pattern, making the instrument effective in live and production contexts. The stereo effects section includes three configurable digital slots in insert or send mode, with over 10 effect types including chorus, delay, reverb, distortion, and a three-band equalizer. This allows for obtaining mix-ready sounds directly from the instrument.
KEYBOARD, CONTROL AND INTEGRATION
The 37-key slim-key keyboard, velocity-sensitive and with aftertouch, ensures immediate expressive control. Extensive connectivity allows for integration with complex hardware and software setups. MiniFreak comes with MiniFreak V, the VST software that fully replicates the sound engine and architecture, allowing for bidirectional preset exchange between hardware and DAW.
