AUDIO TECHNICA ATH-WP900 HI-FI HEADPHONES

CLOSED HEADPHONES FOR AUDIOPHILES - HI FI

The ATH-WP900 portable over-ear headphones feature stunning flamed maple housings for high-fidelity listening on the move and elevated aesthetics. Maple is a rigid and dense wood often used to craft stringed instruments like guitars and violins. In this case, a thin slice of flamed maple veneer has been fused with solid worked maple to produce housings that deliver clear and natural sound quality. The flamed maple finish, supplied by Japanese guitar manufacturer Fujigen, highlights the unique grain of each housing for distinctive beauty that will deepen with age. The headphones feature exclusive 53 mm drivers with powerful magnetic circuit, DLC (diamond-like carbon) coating, and top-mounted PCB structure for exceptional full-range audio reproduction. A specially designed angled baffle improves airflow between the front and rear of the diaphragm for enhanced mid-bass audio reproduction and optimally positions the ear pads on the ears for greater comfort and sound containment. The headphones also feature A2DC (Audio Designed Detachable Coaxial) connectors for secure connection to the two included 1.2 m (3.9') removable cables. One cable features a gold-plated 3.5 mm (1/8") stereo mini-jack for use with smartphones and standard audio devices. The other cable features a gold-plated 4.4 mm (1/6") 5-pin balanced connector for use with high-resolution digital audio players and balanced-compatible headphone amplifiers. The ATH-WP900 ear pads and headband are made of soft synthetic leather for lasting comfort, while the ear cups are swivel and flat-folding for easy transport in the included carrying case. High-resolution audio in brief: The shift to high-resolution audio While many listeners may believe that high-resolution audio arrived with the introduction of the Compact Disc in 1982, the storage space constraints of the disc have always prevented CD audio (standardized worldwide at 44.1 kHz/16 bit) from providing complete and full reproduction of the originally recorded sound. The advent and subsequent popularity of MP3s only accentuated this problem: the necessary compression of these files causes audio information loss, significantly reducing audio quality. But with lossless audio file formats, higher Internet speeds, and increasingly easy-to-obtain storage space (in ever-smaller packages), the push is toward creating audio equipment capable of capturing and reproducing true high-resolution audio, generally considered to be 96 kHz/24 bit or higher. The Hi-Res Audio logo certifies that a product meets Hi-Res Audio standards. According to these standards, headphones must have transducer frequency performance of at least 40 kHz. As a manufacturer of these types of audiophile headphones since 1972, Audio-Technica is well positioned to provide audio solutions that meet the needs of high-resolution audio media formats, enabling full reproduction of their extended sonic characteristics.
