AUDIOQUEST IRISH RED is a subwoofer cable built with a symmetrical coaxial geometry in which identical positive (+) and negative (-) conductors prevent the shield from being used as an inferior audio conductor.
To prevent captured radio frequency interference (RFI) from modulating the equipment's ground reference, AQ's Noise-Dissipation is necessary. Traditional shielding systems typically absorb and then drain RF noise/energy to component ground, modulating and distorting the critical "reference" ground plane, which in turn causes signal distortion. Noise-Dissipation "shields the shield," absorbing and reflecting most of this RF noise/energy before it reaches the layer attached to ground.
AUDIOQUEST IRISH RED features cold-welded, gold-plated terminations that allow for a solder-free connection, which is a common source of distortion. Instead of solder, the process employs a high-pressure technique. Because the rectified shells are stamped rather than machined, the metal used can be chosen for low distortion rather than machinability.
AUDIOQUEST IRISH RED features 0.5% solid silver conductors that eliminate wire interaction distortion. Solid silver-plated conductors are excellent for very high-frequency applications. These signals, being such a high frequency, travel almost exclusively on the surface of the conductor. Because the surface is made of high-purity silver, the performance is very similar to a solid silver cable, but the price is much closer to a solid copper cable. This is an incredibly cost-effective way to produce very high-quality subwoofer cables.
Any solid material adjacent to a conductor is actually part of an imperfect circuit. Cable insulation and circuit board materials all absorb energy. Some of this energy is stored and then released as distortion. Because air absorbs almost no energy and polyethylene is low-loss and has a benign distortion profile, foamed PE, with its high air content, causes much less of the blurring effect common to other materials.
