The AX SCX1MP is a professional studio cardioid condenser microphone, designed for a wide range of recording, broadcast, and live sound applications. Renowned for its high sensitivity, pinpoint accuracy, compact profile, and excellent consistency, the SCX1 is also available with hypercardioid (model SCX1HC) or omnidirectional (model SCX1O) capsules. It features a uniform frequency response from 40 Hz to 20 kHz, excellent phase coherence, and minimal proximity effect. Its wide cardioid polar pattern, combined with high sensitivity and output, makes it ideal for overheads, drums, musical instruments, ambient recording, orchestral sections, string instruments, piano, vibraphone, and sound effects. The SCX1HC model is particularly popular for hi-hat recording both in the studio and live, and is often used for dialogue recording with boom poles indoors. The SCX1 features a 21mm gold-vapor-deposited capsule, miniature electronics, and an extremely compact body. It can handle sound pressure levels up to 130 dB and offers up to 20 dB of ambient noise rejection. In addition to acoustic instruments, it is an excellent choice for group vocals, speech, or Foley work. The body is precision-machined brass, the capsules are interchangeable, the finish is a multi-layer Class A black, and the XLR connector is gold-plated. The SCX1 is manufactured to rigorous standards and very tight tolerances.
