Active Monitor Pair
The AVANTONE CLA-10A is a pair of active monitors equipped with AV10MHF and AV10MLF drivers and a Class A/B power amplifier section housed in a 10.4-liter cabinet.
On the rear panel, in addition to the volume knob, there is one labeled VTPC (Variable Tissue Paper Control) which operates @ 1.8kHz +6/-30dB, allowing sound engineers to simulate any of the original monitors, from the vertical M model to the horizontal Studio version and everything in between. Furthermore, this tone control efficiently allows each sound engineer to choose the tweeter's brilliance that meets their personal needs, also based on the characteristics of the environment of use.
The AVANTONE CLA-10A features a monolithic Class AB amplifier with an integrated circuit and high-current output operating in parallel (with two devices joined to provide greater output power into low impedance loads) and ensures better thermal load performance at high power.
At low power, the THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) is an excellent 0.005%; with nominal load it rises to an inaudible 0.1%, offering excellent performance compared to Class D amplifiers.
The system operates with a continuous voltage of +/-40V to produce a consistent output of 200W RMS at 1kHz into 8Ω. At this point, of course, rather than using an SMPS (Switch Mode Power Supply), Avantone Pro has opted for traditional design, based on a linear power supply. So the power supply requires a large "old school" toroidal transformer to create the classic performance of a Class AB amplifier. Obviously, this implies greater weight and the necessary heat sink, but the sound benefits positively.
