The FOCUSRITE PRO RED 8PRE is an audio interface that features both Thunderbolt 2 connectivity and two mini-DigiLink ports, allowing you to get the best out of Core Audio and Pro Tools|HD. The combination of low-latency conversion and driver technology allows you to create real-time foldback mixes in your DAW while continuing to use native plug-ins. Unlike many interfaces, both mini-DigiLink and Thunderbolt 2 connectivity are standard, so there's no need to purchase an additional optional card.
Focusrite's Red Evolution mic preamps draw on many decades of design expertise and many of the elements behind the popular RedNet mic pre used in many studios, broadcast facilities, and live performances worldwide. The digitally controlled mic preamps provide a clear and honest sound with very low noise and a large amount of gain for quieter sources. They can be controlled from the front panel or remotely via Thunderbolt using RedNet Control. Furthermore, the mic preamp settings can be saved and recalled, allowing for quick reconfiguration for the next session. They also include the unique "Air" effect, which recreates the sound of transformer-based mic preamps in the original ISA and Red ranges. When "Air" is enabled, the microphone impedance is lowered and the sound receives a slight mid-high boost, all in the analog domain.
The converters of the FOCUSRITE PRO RED 8PRE are characterized by low latency, a dynamic range of 118dB AD and 121dB DA, and a flat response at 35kHz.
The FOCUSRITE PRO RED 8PRE includes two ADAT ports, for up to 16 additional inputs and outputs. Simply connect any ADAT equipment, such as Focusrite Octopre, using optical cables.
The FOCUSRITE PRO RED 8PRE also allows you to connect up to 32 channels of Dante inputs and outputs. Simply connect an Ethernet cable and easily add additional mic preamps or line I/O.
The FOCUSRITE PRO RED 8PRE allows the user to assign any physical input or output to any Pro Tools|HD driver/channel, making it easier than ever to customize the interface layout and integrate hardware inserts. Simply open the RedNet Control software and reallocate channels as required.
It is also possible to switch from Pro Tools|HD to another DAW connected to the Thunderbolt interface using the Host Mode setting in the included RedNet Control software.
By using the lowest latency conversion available, along with a high-performance Core Audio driver, the analog round-trip latency of the FOCUSRITE PRO RED 8PRE is kept to an exceptionally low minimum of 1.67 ms.
The FOCUSRITE PRO RED 8PRE includes the new RedNet Control software, which provides a simple and intuitive way to set up mixes and monitoring and, additionally, comes with Softube's Time and Tone Bundle, a unique plug-in package that includes four professional-quality plug-ins from Softube: Drawmer S73 Intelligent Master Processor, TSAR-1R Reverb, Tube Delay, and Saturation Knob. Also included in the package is the Focusrite Red plug-in suite, which accurately models the equalizer and compressor from Focusrite's classic Red 2 and 3 range.
