In the Scarlett 2i2 4th Gen. audio card, XLR and Jack inputs are now separate, no longer COMBO. The connectors are Neutrik and the jack has priority over the XLR: if you insert a jack connector, the microphone input and its respective preamplification will be automatically disabled.

Visual monitoring of level control across the entire Gain Staging chain. The dynamic Meter Halo LEDs on Scarlett allow you to set Gain levels on inputs easily and quickly with any audio source. Today, the Meter Halo on output is also found in the Scarlett 2i2, so the ring around the potentiometer dedicated to setting the volume of your 4th Generation Scarlett's Monitor output will illuminate to give you visibility of the output level and any potential distortion. On the inputs of your Scarlett 2i2 4th Gen you can activate Auto Gain: press the button and play for ten seconds, and Scarlett will take care of setting the perfect level for whatever you're recording.

Clip Safe is the new feature designed to preserve your recorded parts in case the maximum input level is exceeded, that is 0dBFS. When active, the signal will undergo level analysis at a resolution of 96000 points per second, then apply a combination of automatic adjustments in the analog domain, on the preamps, and in the digital domain via DSP. This combination of Auto Gain and Clip Safe will make your recordings simpler and more immediate: focus on performance and less on controls.

The well-known Air feature, created to emulate the sound of the historic Focusrite analog consoles, has been significantly improved in this fourth generation series: analog presence and DSP-based saturation. We're free to apply only the analog or both as we please. Make your recorded tracks stand out within the mix. Once you've tried it, you won't be able to do without it.

A custom-designed headphone amplifier, with an impedance of 300 Ohm and an enviable dynamic range provide the perfect conditions for the best sound reproduction you've ever achieved from a Scarlett interface. Thanks to independent volume controls on the headphone output and the Master monitor output, you can record, mix and playback audio while setting the levels of the two outputs to your liking. High impedance headphones will now also sound louder and more linear with your 4th generation Scarlett.
