2-channel Microphone Preamp
The FREDENSTEIN F200 is a two-channel microphone preamplifier and a two-channel FET compressor with stereo link capabilities. The pre and compressor are wired in series.
The output mixer allows the user to simply mix the mic-pre and compressor outputs. This mimics "old school" faders that mixed compressed and uncompressed signals, and can also be used to add some drive if input levels are turned up and output levels are turned down.
The mic-pre section features a switchable 20dB pad, a low-cut filter, phase reverse, and 48v phantom power. The maximum mic pre gain is +60 dB, the minimum gain with pad engaged is 0 dB. The high impedance direct input (DI) is compatible with balanced and unbalanced signals and also serves as a convenient alternate front panel input.
The FET compressor section features rotary controls for attack, release, and ratio, as well as a stereo link switch. The FREDENSTEIN F200 works perfectly at line levels with the microphone preamp gain turned down, so it can be used as a standard stereo compressor.
Compressor gain reduction or output level can be displayed via the VU-Meter. There is also a "Clip" LED for the mic-pre that illuminates at output levels of +24 dBu.
The quality and construction of the parts are top-notch. It offers professional performance and excellent specifications for all budgets. The FREDENSTEIN F200 is easy to use, sounds great, optimizes workflow, and has enormous creative potential.
