1-Channel Vintage Style Compressor
The COMP-3A is a vintage-sounding compressor/limiter. The signal path is made with discrete components (resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors) and separate transformers optimized for the input and output stages. The use of discrete components allows us to reproduce the sought-after vintage sounds – more musical – that cannot be achieved with current technologies. The COMP-3A circuit is inspired by the famous "program-dependent" electro-optical compressors of the past, in which attenuation was controlled by an electroluminescent panel and a photocell. Compression control, based essentially on Gain and Peak Reduction parameters, makes it easier to achieve the desired sound. The COMP-3A includes an adjustable high-pass filter for better sidechain control, a Link connector that allows two units to be connected for stereo operation with balance adjustment, and adjustable output stage gain. The Limit switch changes the compression curve to use the COMP-3A as a limiter. The analog meter can display both the output level and the gain reduction caused by compression.
