Vintage Style Compressor/Limiter
The COMP-3A jr is a vintage-sounding compressor/leveler. The signal path is made with discrete components (resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors) and separate transformers optimized for the input and output stages. The use of discrete components allows for the reproduction of the sought-after, more musical sounds of the past, which cannot be achieved with current technologies. The COMP-3A jr circuit is inspired by the famous "program dependent" electro-optical compressors of the past, in which attenuation was controlled by an electroluminescent panel and a photocell. The compression control, essentially based on the Gain Makeup and Peak Reduction parameters, makes it easier to achieve the desired sound. The COMP-3A jr includes a high-pass filter for better sidechain control, a Link connector that allows two units to be connected for stereo operation, adjustable output stage gain, and a "Time" switch that allows choosing between 3 different attack/release time settings. The analog meter can display both the output level and the gain reduction caused by compression.
