FEATURES
This passive subwoofer is very compact, powerful, and easy to transport, featuring a bass-reflex design. It is equipped with a specially designed 12" woofer with a 3" voice coil, allowing for wide linear excursion. Through ventilation at the core of the magnetic pole, heat generated by the voice coil is optimally dissipated, enabling a high power handling capacity of 400 WRMS and 800 W peak. Lower heat generation also means increased reliability and reduced thermal stress on the voice coil; the result is excellent dynamics and dry, controlled bass reproduction at incredible sound pressure levels.
It does not have an internal passive crossover, so frequency cutoff must be performed by Harmonic Design system power amplifiers or an external electronic crossover; up to a maximum of 160 Hz (with a 24 dB/oct slope), it ensures the best possible transitions between subwoofer and satellite.
The cabinet is made of high-quality plywood, painted to be scratch, impact, and weather-resistant with a finely structured finish. Two ergonomic carrying handles on the top ensure easy handling. The front of the subwoofer is protected by a rust-proof steel grille coated with internally bonded acoustic foam. An M20 threaded insert on the top of the cabinet allows for mounting a pole to attach another speaker. In addition, four abrasion-resistant rubber feet on the underside ensure stable positioning. The hd Sub12 is also available in an installation version without handles and M20 threading.
It can be used as a slave subwoofer in addition to the hd P12 stereo active subwoofer or with all Harmonic Design system power amplifiers to ensure reliable and accurate low-frequency reproduction.
