The KORG MINILOGUE XD MODULE is a four-voice polyphonic analog synthesizer with a customizable digital multi-engine and built-in stereo digital effects.
The KORG MINILOGUE XD MODULE is the "Desktop" module version of the minilogue xd and has exactly the same controls as the keyboard version. It also features the special "Poly Chain" function that allows it to be connected to a minilogue xd or another module, making them operate as a single eight-voice polysynth.
The synthesis structure of the KORG MINILOGUE XD MODULE consists of: 2VCO + MULTI ENGINE, 1VCF, 2EG, 1VCA, and an LFO, in addition to the characteristic circuits of this instrument such as Wave Shaping for harmonic modeling, Ring & Cross Modulation, Sync between oscillators, a two-pole filter, and Drive which adds more body to the signal sent to the filters. Every parameter has been carefully tuned based on the requests of acclaimed musicians. The timbres obtainable from this instrument range from warm Pad sounds, to typical "Fat" and present analog bass timbres, to always dynamic and penetrating "Lead" solo sounds, practically covering every genre and repertoire need.
In the synthesis structure, a "Multi-Engine" digital oscillator is added to the two traditional analog VCOs, significantly increasing the programming versatility of the KORG MINILOGUE XD MODULE. The Multi Engine is originally supplied with 3 types of sound generators: Noise, VPM, and a User Oscillator (Open Source), capable of generating sounds different from those of analog oscillators. The three sources can, however, be used simultaneously, thus obtaining hybrid timbres with potential yet to be explored.
The high-quality effects of the KORG MINILOGUE XD MODULE are achieved using a powerful dedicated 32-bit floating point DSP; this allows for the generation of 3 different types of effects: modulation, reverb, and delay, which can also be used simultaneously. It is possible to choose from a wide range of Chorus, Ensemble, Delay, and Reverbs, which add the final touch to every timbre. This section also has 16 Slots for loading Custom effects.
The KORG MINILOGUE XD MODULE features an extensively customizable Open-Source development environment. The unit has 16 Slots for User Oscillators and 16 for User Effects. Custom resources can be created using a dedicated SDK (Software Development Kit), and can be loaded and managed with the Librarian Software created by KORG, as well as user-created timbres.
One of the main features of the minilogue xd series is the 16-Step Sequencer. Each factory Program has a Sequence Pattern suitably programmed to further enhance each Performance.
The KORG MINILOGUE XD MODULE's Step Sequencer has 16 Steps and supports both Real Time and Step recording. The 16 control keys can be used to directly select a Step, quickly change its pitch, its "Mute" status, or even improvise. The "Motion Sequence" function accurately records the movements of 4 knobs, allowing for the creation of sounds that evolve over time. Both uniform and very sudden variations can be precisely recorded on each Step. This function can be used to create sounds with a distinctly different timbre for each Step, starting from a single Program, such as Percussive Patterns or various types of sound effects. Motion Sequence is a great source of inspiration in the field of Sound Design.
These 16 buttons can also function as a Keyboard, simulating a normal keyboard, thus providing a practical and immediate way to test each sound.
The KORG MINILOGUE XD MODULE can be connected to another unit of the minilogue xd series for polyphonic assignment settings. By selecting one unit as Master and the other as Slave, it will be possible to use them as if they were a single eight-voice polyphonic synthesizer. This function allows for a wide variety of applications, such as a module to expand the polyphony of the minilogue xd or as a sound generator for a DAW production system.
