The KORG RK-100S2-RD is a 37-key keytar featuring an ergonomic design, a professional sound engine, and a recognizable look. The wooden body, inherited from the original RK-100, is a distinctive feature of the RK100S 2, available in a finish that highlights the wood grain. Numerous solo sounds have been added, making it suitable for immediate use on stage for any musician.
One of the most attractive elements of the RK series is the beauty of its cabinet's shape, which looks decidedly unconventional compared to that of keyboards. In fact, the material used and its design are inspired more by the world of guitarists, with an undeniable and timeless charm.
On the KORG RK-100S2-RD, this attention to detail has been further developed, and the instrument now has a finish that highlights the grain of the real natural wood used in its construction. For this reason, each unit has different grain patterns, making it practically unique. The care taken in the finishing is also much more similar to guitar making than to typical electronic instruments, an element that enhances the instrument's unique character.
On the KORG RK-100S2-RD, the internal programs have been significantly expanded, with a particular focus on Lead Synth sounds or other solo sounds that particularly highlight the musician. Many frequently used sounds in the current music scene have been included, with 200 ready-to-use presets capable of satisfying all genres and styles. The overall sound of the instrument is dynamic and present; all presets are immediately accessible during a live performance thanks to the dedicated FAVORITE buttons on the top panel. The performer can also benefit from the help of a versatile arpeggiator with numerous patterns.
The KORG RK-100S2-RD uses a 37-note Slim (thin) keyboard, made without compromise to achieve maximum playability and to minimize the instrument's weight and size.
The KORG RK-100S2-RD has two ribbon controls: Ribbon Controllers, which allow real-time modification of some sound parameters. The shorter ribbon located in the neck area controls Pitch Bend and modulation, while the longer one positioned in the keyboard area controls Pitch or Filter. This allows the performer to create, for example, sweeps of these parameters according to their inspiration or the musical needs of the moment. With the long ribbon, it is also possible to control the pitch of sounds as an alternative to the keyboard, thus providing considerable room for experimentation or unconventional performances.
The KORG RK-100S2-RD can be powered by six AA batteries, which provide up to 8 hours of continuous operation. Once powered, simply connect the instrument to headphones or a listening system, and you can start playing immediately without worrying about power cables, which is very useful and efficient on a live stage. Of course, an AC adapter (optional) can also be used if needed.
The Mini Jack input (mono) allows the connection of a microphone for Vocoder, which can further characterize a live performance. The input can also be used to connect an external sound source such as a smartphone, to be used as a player for backing tracks.
The KORG RK-100S2-RD is not limited to playing internal sounds; it features a MIDI OUT jack and a USB port, allowing it to be used as a controller for external units such as hardware sound modules or virtual instruments on computers. An editor for PC is also available for free download from the KORG website, allowing refined and complete control of all parameters of the RK-100S sound engine.
