MXR M306 POLY BLUE OCTAVE OVERVIEW
The Poly Blue Octave delivers high-performance pitch-shifting, fuzz, and modulation in a compact, rugged enclosure with True Bypass switching. It features four separate octave sections (one octave down, two octaves down, one octave up, two octaves up), and you can separately set the level of each in the mix. By default, each section is polyphonic, meaning it adapts perfectly to both chords and single notes. You can adjust the clean signal level separately, choosing the right blend between it and the processed signal. The Mono switch allows you to achieve monophonic sounds in the style of analog pitch shifters. In this mode, the low octaves will have the warm sound typical of pedals like the MXR Vintage Bass Octave, while the high octaves will lean towards the sounds of the Octavio Fuzz if the fuzz intensity is set to minimum.
The Poly Blue Octave features a wild fuzz inspired by the classic MXR Blue Box™ Fuzz. Applied to all five signals (the four octave sections and the clean signal), the fuzz volume can be adjusted using the Dry knob while holding down the Fuzz button. Used with the low octaves, the fuzz will have a dark, massive timbre, while with the high octaves, it will achieve synth-like sounds. Using both high and low octaves with fuzz will give you an enormous, dense sound. If all this isn't enough, add modulation: in polyphonic mode, you'll get a simulation of the famous Leslie, while in monophonic mode, it provides an effect similar to the Phase 90 modulation. Like fuzz, modulation is applied to all five active signals. The Mod knob adjusts the "rate" of the effect; you can also deactivate the modulation by turning this knob to minimum.
Via the EXP jack, the Poly Blue Octave allows you to control various settings by connecting an expression pedal or a tempo switch, for example, to switch from controlling a knob to change settings, or to activate or deactivate Fuzz and Mono modes.
MXR M306 POLY BLUE OCTAVE POWER SUPPLY
The MXR M306 Poly Blue Octave requires 265 mA and can be powered by the included Dunlop ECB003 9-volt adapter or, alternatively, by a Brick™ series power supply. It cannot be battery-powered.
MXR M306 POLY BLUE OCTAVE CONTROLS
Dry: adjusts the clean signal level;
Sub-1: adjusts the level of the signal one octave down;
Sub-2: adjusts the level of the signal two octaves down;
Oct+1: adjusts the level of the signal one octave up;
Oct+2: adjusts the level of the signal two octaves up;
Mod: in polyphonic mode, adjusts the speed of the Leslie simulator; in Mono mode (red LED lit), adjusts the speed of the phase shifter;
Fuzz: pressing this button lights up the LED blue, providing a Blue Box-style fuzz; holding it down will make the LED flash, and turning the Dry knob sets the fuzz volume; press it again to save the volume setting;
Mono: pressing this button lights up the LED red, and the pedal operates in Mono mode; in this mode, the two low octaves sound like a vintage Octaver and are monophonic; the two high octaves will sound like an Octavio pedal with the fuzz level at minimum.
EXP jack: by connecting an expression pedal with a TRS cable, you can control all 6 knobs and the two mode buttons: make adjustments with the rocker of the expression pedal up and down, thus setting the minimum and maximum level; moving the pedal will move you within the range you have set. Alternatively, by connecting an MXR tap switch with a mono cable, you can activate and deactivate fuzz mode or Mono mode: press the tap switch once to activate and deactivate fuzz, twice to activate and deactivate Mono mode;
Software version: to check the software version, set all potentiometers to maximum, then hold down the switch for ten seconds: the Mono mode LED will flash a number of times corresponding to the software version. The blue Fuzz mode LED will flash for major updates, the red for minor ones (e.g., if the version is 3.2, the blue LED will flash 3 times and the red twice).
