In just a few short years, Randy Rhoads revolutionized rock guitar playing, blending fluid legato passages and classical-inspired melodies with searing, violin-like solos and saturated riffs. One of the most important elements of his overwhelming sound was the MXR Distortion+: Randy leveraged its energy to push his hi-gain amplifier, achieving a richness of harmonics and creating his signature sound destined to leave an indelible mark in music history.
MXR celebrates his monumental legacy with this reissue of his MXR Distortion+. For the first time in 42 years, the Rhoads family unveiled Randy's pedalboard to the MXR design team at the family's music school in Los Angeles, the Musonia School of Music. History was made there: the MXR team carefully opened the pedalboard, examining and documenting every detail of this authentic relic of rock history. Engineers meticulously recreated the specifications of Randy's vintage Distortion+, with the direct involvement of his sister Kathy Rhoads, creating this signature model capable of producing the same distorted sounds heard in Randy's most beloved songs. Inspired by a supersonic aircraft he traveled on during a tour with Ozzy Osbourne, Randy designed a Flying V-style guitar, with a white finish and a decorative stripe. That iconic instrument is the inspiration for this special edition, the MXR RR104C Randy Rhoads Concorde Distortion+. An exclusive collector's booklet is included in the box.
