La Neumann EA 4 è la sospensione elastica originale studiata per il microfono a condensatore TLM 102. Il suo compito è isolare il microfono dalle vibrazioni meccaniche e dai rumori strutturali che si propagano attraverso l'asta e il pavimento: passi, urti accidentali, vibrazioni di amplificatori o del palco possono infatti trasformarsi in rimbombi e disturbi a bassa frequenza nella registrazione.
Grazie al sistema di sospensione elastica, il corpo del microfono resta disaccoppiato dal supporto, mentre lo snodo orientabile permette di inclinarlo con precisione verso la sorgente. L'aggancio è pensato per le dimensioni compatte del TLM 102, che viene trattenuto in modo stabile e sicuro.
La EA 4 è utilizzata da Neumann anche negli Studio Set del TLM 107 ed è indicata come compatibile con il Sennheiser MK 4. È quindi un accessorio versatile per chi possiede più microfoni di queste famiglie in studio o in regia.
Il collegamento all'asta avviene tramite filettatura femmina da 5/8"-27; l'adattatore in dotazione consente il montaggio su aste con filetto da 1/2" e 3/8", per la massima compatibilità con supporti di standard americano ed europeo. Questa è la versione standard, abbinata esteticamente al TLM 102 in finitura nichel; per i microfoni neri è disponibile la variante EA 4 nera.
