The Neumann KK 15 is the supercardioid capsule of the Miniature Clip Mic System (MCM), the family of Neumann clip-on microphones designed for close-miking acoustic instruments. It completes the range alongside the omnidirectional KK 13 and the cardioid KK 14, offering the tightest directivity in the system for situations where source isolation is the priority.
The supercardioid pattern focuses the pickup on the instrument to which the capsule is attached and significantly attenuates sounds coming from the sides. This makes it particularly useful on crowded and noisy stages, in brass sections, on percussion sets, in orchestras, or in any situation where several instruments play close together and the sound engineer needs to limit bleed and the risk of feedback.
Like the other MCM capsules, the KK 15 is made with components assembled by hand in Germany and a titanium body, and is capable of handling up to 153 dB SPL: values that allow it to be used in front of a trumpet bell or on a drum kit snare drum without fear of saturation.
The capsule screws onto the SH 100, SH 150, and SH 250 goosenecks and can be mounted with any of the clips in the MC series, taking full advantage of the system's modularity. For connection, AC 31-AC 34 cables are used, allowing it to be connected to the MCM 100 or MCM 102 XLR output stage or directly to the most widely used wireless bodypack transmitters.
