Il Neumann MCM 114 Set Cello è la configurazione del Miniature Clip Mic System pensata per il violoncello. Raccoglie in una sola confezione capsula, supporti, cavo e stadio di uscita, offrendo a musicisti e fonici una catena microfonica completa per la ripresa ravvicinata in concerto, a teatro e in studio.
Il sistema si basa sulla capsula KK 14, a condensatore electret con diagramma cardioide, assemblata a mano in Germania con una costruzione a strati che Neumann ha sviluppato per superare i limiti degli electret tradizionali. La risposta da 20 Hz a 20 kHz restituisce la profondità del registro grave e la ricchezza armonica tipica del violoncello, mentre il diagramma cardioide favorisce la separazione dagli altri strumenti dell'ensemble.
Il fissaggio è affidato alla clip MC 2, che si monta sulle corde del violoncello sotto il ponticello senza alcun intervento sullo strumento. Il collo d'oca SH 150, con sospensione elastica che attenua i rumori meccanici, permette di avvicinare e orientare la capsula; il supporto ruota e si blocca a scatti di 45° per un posizionamento preciso e facilmente ripetibile.
Il cavo AC 31 da 1,8 m porta il segnale allo stadio di uscita MCM 100, che fornisce un'uscita XLR-3M bilanciata alimentata con phantom 48 V. Fanno parte della dotazione anche l'antivento WS 110, il fermacavo KC 1 e la custodia morbida.
Con il microfono solidale allo strumento il violoncellista conserva libertà di movimento, mentre il fonico può contare su un livello stabile e su un timbro naturale, fedele all'acustica del violoncello.
