Novation Launchkey 88 MK4 is a keyboard MIDI controller designed for composers, performers, and producers who want to combine the expressiveness of an extended 88-key keyboard with direct and complete control over their production environment. The semi-weighted keyboard with waterfall action has been developed to offer a natural musical response, suitable for playing piano and orchestral parts, as well as controlling virtual instruments, software synths, and hybrid hardware/software setups.
The control panel integrates 16 velocity-sensitive FSR pads with polyphonic aftertouch, 9 faders, 8 endless rotary encoders, dedicated buttons for transport, navigation, creative functions, and controlling music production software (DAW). The high-contrast OLED display provides clear feedback on settings and parameters in use, making work in the studio, live, or during composition more immediate.
Novation Launchkey 88 MK4 offers advanced integration with major DAW software, including Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Cubase, FL Studio, Reason, Bitwig Studio, and Ardour, without complex setup procedures. The hardware controls allow you to manage transport, mixer, virtual instruments, effects, EQ, clips, and scenes, while HUI compatibility also allows you to work with other DAW software. In Ableton Live's Session View and Logic Pro's Live Loops, the pads can be used to launch clips and scenes with visual feedback via RGB backlighting.
The integrated creative tools allow you to develop musical ideas directly from the keyboard. Scale Mode allows you to lock notes to the desired key, choosing from 30 different scales, while Chord Detector shows the played chord on the OLED display. Chord Mode, Fixed Chord, User Chord, and Chord Map modes facilitate the creation of harmonic progressions, while the advanced arpeggiator with pattern editor offers immediate control over sequences and rhythmic variations.
For those working with multiple sound sources, Launchkey 88 MK4 allows you to split the keyboard into two independent zones or layer two MIDI channels across the entire 88-key range. The 5-pin MIDI DIN output allows direct connection to synthesizers, expanders, and hardware instruments even without a computer, while the USB-C connection ensures bus power and class-compliant operation with Mac, PC, and compatible iOS devices.
Customization is done via the Novation Components software, which allows you to create dedicated mappings for pads, encoders, and faders, assigning MIDI controls, notes, program changes, or specific commands to adapt Launchkey 88 MK4 to your workflow. NKS compatibility also ensures immediate integration with Native Instruments software for the keyboard's hardware controls.
The included software bundle* allows you to start producing music right away. The package includes Ableton Live 12 Lite, Cubase LE, Melodics, Novation Play, GForce Bass Station, GForce Oberheim SEM, GForce Oberheim OB-EZ, GForce AXXESS, Klevgrand LUXE, Klevgrand Slammer, Orchestral Tools Parallel Orchestra, and Native Instruments Komplete Select. Novation Play, developed in collaboration with Klevgrand, includes over 80 sounds including basses, leads, pads, pianos, drum kits, and sampled timbres from Novation, Sequential, and Oberheim synthesizers.
Designed for intensive use in the studio and on stage, Novation Launchkey 88 MK4 combines the advanced control of a modern DAW environment with the feel of an expressive, solid, and immediate hardware instrument, offering a complete control center for production, performance, and composition.
