AUTOMAT Technology

It features fully automatic start/stop, but the automation is completely deactivated throughout the entire playback duration. The fully mechanical automation is engaged when start is pressed and the tonearm is automatically moved to the first groove of the record. During playback, the automation is completely deactivated and does not affect sound quality, tonearm movement or platter rotation in the slightest! And because the automation is purely mechanical, with no additional electronics needed, it does not influence or degrade sound quality during playback!

Rigid MDF Chassis

The rigid wooden chassis, through its construction process, eliminates empty spaces within the base, with just enough space to precisely insert all internal mechanisms of the A1. As a result, the chassis is very heavy, minimizing unwanted resonances and isolating the Pro-Ject A1 from external vibrations.

Damped Aluminum Platter

The aluminum platter is completely manufactured in Germany. It undergoes three processing phases; it is first stamped, bent and drilled. Subsequently, a silicone damping ring is inserted around the perimeter to increase weight and reduce resonances. Finally, it is precisely balanced to minimize wow and flutter and painted, contributing to the sober and elegant appearance of the Pro-Ject A1 turntable.

Perfect Speed, Phono Preamplifier, Cable

Like many Pro-Ject turntables, motor speed is electronically controlled. By simply pressing a button you can easily switch between 33 and 45 rpm. The integrated phono preamplifier also makes the A1 incredibly versatile and allows you to connect it directly to any line input or phono input. The A1 comes with the Connect it E phono cable. It is a semi-balanced, low-capacitance, shielded cable, an added value in this price range.

New Silicone-Damped Support Feet

The new feet effectively decouple the turntable from the surface it rests on by using an internal layer of silicone damping. This is an essential feature for any good turntable as it is a further guarantee that vinyl playback is not affected by external interference and resonances.

Low-mass aluminum tonearm

Pro-Ject A1 features an 8.3" low-mass aluminum tonearm. The included cartridge is the Ortofon OM10, which perfectly adapts to the tonearm ensuring extraordinarily fast and detailed response in terms of transients and microdynamics. A particular feature of Ortofon's OM series lies in the fact that it was designed for low-mass tonearms. The tracking force and anti-skating are preset at the factory, which makes the A1 plug & play ready to operate in seconds. This makes it perfect for both beginners and experienced listeners, offering both audiophile sound quality.

Amagnetc cartridge holder, carbon fiber reinforced

The cartridge holder features a completely new design for Pro-Ject, developed exclusively for A1. It is made of polymer reinforced with carbon fiber which makes it particularly stable and rigid, while maintaining minimal weight to interface perfectly with the low-mass tonearm design. The polymer/carbon composite material is also excellent for damping internal resonances.

Handmade in Germany

Pro-Ject A1 is completely handmade in Germany and is based on decades of experience in turntable production. Assembled and fine-tuned by some of the best engineers in the industry. All individual components of the A1 are also manufactured and produced 98-99% in Germany, internally within the factory and in its immediate surroundings. The entire region is so rich in turntable tradition that it all translates into unique quality and products.
