Aluminum platter with peripheral silicone damping ring and rigid MDF chassis. Low-mass 8.3" straight aluminum tonearm with non-magnetic polymer/carbon alloy headshell. Support feet with silicone core. Separate power supply to eliminate interference. Dust cover and RCA cable included. Weight 5kg.
AUTOMAT Technology
It has a fully automatic start/stop, but the automatics are completely deactivated during the entire playback time of the record side. The fully mechanical automatic system is activated when you press start and the tonearm is automatically moved to the first groove of the record. During playback, the automatic system is completely deactivated and does not affect the playback quality, the free movement of the tonearm, or the platter! And since the automatics are only mechanical, with no need for additional electronics, they do not affect or degrade sound quality during playback!
Rigid MDF Chassis
The rigid wooden chassis, due to its manufacturing process, avoids empty spaces inside the base, with just enough space to precisely insert all of the A1's internal mechanisms. As a result, the chassis is very heavy, minimizing unwanted resonances and decoupling the Pro-Ject A1 from external vibrations.
Damped Aluminum Platter
The aluminum platter is entirely manufactured in Germany. It undergoes three processing phases; it is first stamped, bent, and drilled. Subsequently, a peripheral silicone damping ring is inserted to increase its weight and reduce resonances. Finally, it is precisely balanced to minimize wow and flutter and then painted, contributing to the sober and elegant appearance of the Pro-Ject A1 turntable.
Perfect Speed, Phono Preamplifier, Cable
As with many Pro-Ject turntables, the motor speed is electronically controlled. With a simple push of a button, you can easily switch between 33 and 45 RPM. The integrated phono preamplifier also makes the A1 incredibly versatile and allows it to be connected directly to any line input or a phono input. The A1 comes with the Connect it E phono cable. This is a semi-balanced, low-capacitance, shielded cable, adding further value at this price point.
New Silicone Damped Feet
The new feet effectively decouple the turntable from the surface it rests on by using an internal silicone damping layer. This is an essential feature for any good turntable as it further guarantees that vinyl playback is not affected by external interference and resonances.
Low-Mass Aluminum Tonearm
The Pro-Ject A1 features a low-mass 8.3" aluminum tonearm. The included cartridge is the Ortofon OM10, which perfectly matches the tonearm, ensuring an extraordinarily fast and detailed response in terms of transients and microdynamics. A special feature of Ortofon's OM series is precisely that it was designed for low-mass tonearms. Tracking force and anti-skating are pre-set at the factory, which makes the A1 plug & play ready to operate in seconds. This makes it perfect for both newcomers and experienced listeners, offering both audiophile sound quality.
Non-Magnetic, Carbon Fiber Reinforced Headshell
The headshell has a completely new design for Pro-Ject, developed exclusively for the A1. It is made of carbon fiber reinforced polymer, which makes it particularly stable and rigid, while maintaining minimal weight to perfectly interface with the low-mass tonearm design. The polymer/carbon composite material is also excellent at damping internal resonances.
Handmade in Germany
The Pro-Ject A1 is entirely handmade in Germany and is based on decades of experience in turntable manufacturing. Assembled and finely tuned by some of the best engineers in the industry. All individual components of the A1 are also 98-99% made and produced in Germany, within the factory and its immediate vicinity. The entire region is so rich in turntable tradition that all of this translates into quality and unique products. Pro-Ject is proud to employ this know-how to set new production standards for automatic turntables. The A1 is the beginning of a new Pro-Ject category.
