Radial Engineering Catapult RX
Estimated delivery in Italy between 16 and 18 June
Catapult Rack RX by RADIAL ENGINEERING is an audio distribution system that allows the connection of a stage to a mixing console via standard Cat 5 or Cat 6 Ethernet cables, across 3 lines, receiving 12 balanced analog audio channels. It is built into a robust steel cabinet with standard 19'' Rack dimensions, resistant to the harsh stresses of touring. It features lockable Neutrik etherCON connectors, with reversible Rack adapters that can be installed on the front or back to suit any cabling need.

Key Features of Catapult Rack RX
- Distributes 12 balanced audio channels over three Cat 5 cable lines
- Compatible with any other Radial Catapult module
- Robust 19'' steel rack-mount cabinet
- Lockable Neutrik etherCON connectors
- Reversible Rack adapters for optimal configuration
Analog Audio over Cat 5 Cables
Catapult Rack RX functions exactly like a typical "snake," a multi-channel analog audio cable; it allows sending microphone or line-level signals from one location, such as a stage, to another, like a mixer position, without signal loss, noise, or interference, and without the need for digital audio conversion. What makes the Catapult system unique is that it uses readily available, lightweight, and inexpensive Cat 5 Ethernet cable. Simply connect a shielded Cat 5 cable for every four audio channels and plug it into any Radial Catapult series module: the analog conductors of the CAT5/6 cable are used to provide four balanced audio lines to any destination.
Rack Versatility
Catapult Rack RX functions as three Catapult modules enclosed in a single chassis. Since each Cat 5 Ethernet cable can carry four channels, the 12 XLRs on each Catapult rack are divided into three banks, each with its own Ground Lift switch for noise elimination and RJ45 Ethernet jacks on the rear panel. It is possible to use three Ethernet cables to connect all 12 channels to a single location or divide them among any of the Radial Catapult stage boxes, creating a fully customizable audio system that can connect multiple destinations simultaneously and even include transformer isolation where necessary.
Tour-Proof Robustness
Catapult Rack RX is designed to handle the toughest professional touring environments, and like all Catapult modules, it includes Neutrik etherCON RJ45 connectors. These allow the use of compatible cables with a protective metal shell around the Ethernet connector that prevents accidental disconnections and also protects the RJ45 plug itself from damage. Another notable feature of the Catapult Rack is the addition of reversible rack ears, which can be mounted on either side of the chassis, so you can have the XLR or Ethernet connections facing outwards as needed.
Passive Straight-Wire Operation
Catapult Rack modules do not require power for their operation, and they also keep the signal in the analog domain, without any AD digital conversion. The direct connection from each bank of XLRs to the RJ45 connector on a Cat 5 cable ensures that the audio passes passively without coloration or distortion.
The Catapult Family
All Radial Catapult modules are compatible with each other and sold individually, so you can select the combination that best suits your personal needs. Catapult Mini RX and RX can be used together as a pair, creating a compact 4-channel audio snake. However, if you prefer to have a Stage Box to connect microphones, but with a compact breakout cable that fits in your mixer case, combine Catapult TX4 with Catapult Mini RX. With the addition of Catapult Rack units, you can also incorporate equipment racks into your personal configurations for greater versatility, with each rack unit essentially functioning as three 4-channel modules in a 1RU space. With the wide variety of modules available, you can customize your stage or recording studio setup to fit any application.
Practical Applications of Catapult Rack RX
Using Catapult Rack RX with Catapult Rack TX
The Catapult Rack RX + RX (transmit and receive) system allows the transmission of 12 channels of balanced analog audio over just three inexpensive Cat 5 cables. This system eliminates cumbersome, heavy, and multi-channel audio snakes.
Create Stage Zones with Catapult Rack RX
Set up the Catapult Rack RX at your PA console and position three compact Catapult Mini TX units in different stage zones. This reduces cable clutter and simplifies setups and tear-downs.
Greater Versatility with Catapult TX4
Combining Catapult Rack RX with Catapult TX4 stage boxes increases connection versatility to adapt to any configuration. The TX4 features both male and female XLR connectors, allowing them to be used for sends or returns, or the XLR thru connectors can send signals to a monitor mixer.
