The RME BABYFACE PRO FS is a USB audio interface made from a single solid block of aluminum, featuring entirely redesigned analog and digital circuitry and new power-saving technologies, ensuring optimal quality under all conditions.
The first immediately noticeable difference compared to the previous version of the Babyface (now discontinued) is the on-board provision of all main connections, eliminating the need for the external breakout cable, which was not always practical or functional. For the main inputs and outputs, RME has designed an XLR socket that integrates perfectly into the chassis, saving considerable space. The two headphone outputs, one with a mini jack and one with a parallel TRS connector, ensure an optimal signal level for every situation, regardless of the headphones used.
The two on-board preamplifiers with digital control offer individually selectable 48V phantom power: these brand-new circuits provide up to 70 dB of gain, adjustable in 3 dB steps, with a PAD that guarantees an exceptional EIN (Equivalent Input Noise) level, as well as overload protection and optimal gain even for microphones with low output levels.
The extremely meticulous design of the RME BABYFACE PRO FS allows for operation without the need for external power in virtually any situation. The interface is perfectly stable with USB 3 bus power, and also with most USB 2 connections, without any degradation in performance. This makes the RME BABYFACE PRO FS the ideal solution for mobile recording, perfect for any occasion with a pair of condenser microphones.
The wide range of connections also includes TOSLINK optical input and output, usable as an ADAT port with SMUX support or as SPDIF for sessions up to 192 kHz. With an external ADAT converter, the RME BABYFACE PRO FS can manage 12 analog inputs and 12 analog outputs, making it a perfect device for multitrack recording in the studio and live. Instrument, line, or high-impedance signals can be connected to jack inputs 3 & 4, allowing you to record a guitar "on the fly" without the need for additional hardware. The features are completed by a MIDI input and output via a dedicated adapter cable.
Naturally, the RME BABYFACE PRO FS also comes with RME's TotalMix FX software, available for Windows, Mac OS X, and iOS. TotalMix FX allows you to add EQ, reverb, and delay to all input and output channels up to 192 kHz. The Control Room section adds a series of advanced monitoring functions to the routing flexibility, significantly simplifying studio work.
