Ultra-low noise linear audio power supply with μFilter technology and Sensor Technology
The new DPS-2 is an exceptional linear power supply that not only boasts impressive specs, but also a range of unique and extremely useful features, such as the two differently filtered outputs. The housing and front panel of the DPS-2 are based on the ADI-2 series, to accommodate RME's innovative circuit design in a half-width rack.
The Linear output is a traditional DC output, but it employs multi-stage passive and active filtering which includes a 30,000 μF capacitor bank, a ferrite inductor, and an active output filter with a hybrid voltage regulator.
The second output is based on μFilter technology (RME patent). In this case, the pre-filtered Linear output signal is also processed by highly efficient active filters to achieve an exceptionally clean DC output with only a few μV (microvolts) of noise. In addition, the output features sensor technology that measures and adapts the output voltage directly at the DC connector of the supplied DC cable. As a result, the output impedance and load regulation are extremely low and ensure a clean +12.0 V output voltage at a 2.5 A load, completely avoiding load-dependent voltage drops.
The additional use of a 2-stage RF filter and a DC filter on the AC mains side, allows the DPS-2 to deliver optimal performance without interference. This is further enhanced by the 60 VA “audio grade” toroidal transformer with additional isolation winding and magnetic tape shielding, which ensures absolutely hum-free operation in all situations, while the Ground Lift switch can be used to disconnect the DC ground from the earth circuit, if necessary, to eliminate interference or hum. In this case, safety is not compromised, as the primary and enclosure remain firmly connected to the mains earth. In addition, the DPS-2 features a screw-type ground terminal for grounding other equipment or for using a different ground for the audio power supply.
The DPS-2 has two status LEDs on the front panel to provide a quick overview of operating modes and possible malfunctions (power, thermal and power overload, undervoltage, short circuit, active output). A recessed push button on the front panel allows enabling AutoDark mode, where the LEDs only light up on power-up and in case of an error.
