The MADI Router is the first device that RME makes available for its renewed Premium Line with a wide range of top-level products for multicannel digital transmission and conversion. The MADI Router features four groups with three different MADI I/O each and is used as a patch bay and format converter, making it absolutely essential for anyone working with the MADI protocol. Apart from perfect signal distribution quality, the MADI Router allows, compared to the award-winning MADI Bridge, to create output signals with combinations of audio channels from different MADI inputs. The MADI protocol (English acronym for Multichannel Audio Digital Interface) was defined worldwide by the AES and allows managing up to 64 channels at 24-bit at a frequency of 48 kHz or, alternatively, 32 channels at 24-bit and 96 kHz. One of the main innovations is the new RJ45 connector, which allows the use of standard Ethernet network cables for data transmission, until now possible exclusively through a single coaxial cable with BNC connectors or over fiber optics. Now with traditional network cables you can have cables up to 100m, for the first time audio transmission between two devices through a single cable is possible and, a not insignificant detail, you can rely on the considerable reduction of costs for cabling
