The MADI Router is the first device RME is making available for its renewed Premium Line, with a wide range of top-tier products for multichannel digital transmission and conversion. The MADI Router features four groups with three different MADI I/Os each and is used as a patch bay and format converter, making it absolutely indispensable for anyone working with the MADI protocol. Aside from perfect signal distribution quality, the MADI Router, compared to the award-winning MADI Bridge, allows the creation of output signals with combinations of audio channels from different MADI inputs. The MADI protocol (Multichannel Audio Digital Interface) has been globally defined by the AES and allows managing up to 64 channels at 24-bit with a frequency of 48 kHz or, alternatively, 32 channels at 24-bit and 96 kHz. One of the main innovations is the new RJ45 connector, which allows the use of standard Ethernet network cables for data transmission, previously only possible via a single coaxial cable with BNC connectors or on fiber optics. Now, with traditional network cables, cables up to 100m can be used, allowing for the first time audio transmission between two devices via a single cable and, not insignificantly, a considerable reduction in cabling costs.
