The MADI Router is the first device RME has made available for its revamped Premium Line, offering a wide range of top-tier products for multichannel digital transmission and conversion. The MADI Router features four groups with three different MADI I/Os each and serves as a patch bay and format converter, making it absolutely indispensable for anyone working with the MADI protocol. Aside from perfect signal distribution quality, the MADI Router, compared to the award-winning MADI Bridge, allows for the creation of output signals with combinations of audio channels from different MADI inputs. The MADI protocol (Multichannel Audio Digital Interface) has been globally defined by AES and can handle up to 64 channels at 24-bit with a 48 kHz frequency or, alternatively, 32 channels at 24-bit and 96 kHz. One of the main new features is the new RJ45 connector, which allows the use of standard Ethernet network cables for data transmission, previously only possible via a single coaxial cable with BNC connectors or optical fiber. Now, with traditional network cables, lengths of up to 100m are possible, and for the first time, audio transmission between two devices can occur via a single cable, and, not insignificantly, cabling costs can be significantly reduced.
