Rackmount Switcher with PTZ Camera Control for Live Production and Fixed Installations
The XS-62S is a six-channel video switcher with audio mixing and PTZ camera control capabilities for permanent installations and on-location events. In a compact 1U rackmount unit, this powerful integrated solution supports a wide range of applications, including presentations, shows, special events, corporate AV conferencing, e-learning, and more.
Applications
Live Production Studio
Content creation is a challenge for many companies looking to more efficiently produce product presentations, corporate meetings, and training. The XS-62S makes content creation easy with an integrated switching and audio mixing system that simplifies the production process.
The XS-62S is easy to operate from the front panel or via a computer using the XS-62S Remote Control Software (RCS) for macOS and Windows. Programmable presets allow one-touch recall of camera positions and angles, and the Auto Mixing feature handles audio mixing in the background, allowing the operator to focus on video switching. The XS-62S is the perfect size for installation in small spaces and is portable enough to be used in multiple areas of a corporate office or other facilities.
Performance Hall / Church
The XS-62S is the ideal solution for hotel meeting rooms and dining halls, houses of worship, and live performance venues.
Matrix mode allows you to easily send different content to two or three video destinations from a single switcher, all while mixing program audio and controlling remote PTZ cameras.
PGM/PST mode functions as a traditional switcher complete with cross-dissolve switching and Auxiliary bus delegation for sending different video to a secondary destination, such as the presenter's confidence monitor or an additional presentation screen.
Performance venues will greatly benefit from the built-in Auto Mixing feature. This automatically balances input audio sources, such as round table microphones, making the operator's job easier. The XS-62S's audio processing also includes advanced effects like EQ, dynamics, and delay for mixing vocal speeches along with music and other audio embedded in video sources. These effects provide improved sound quality for streaming, recording, and sound reinforcement applications.
Live Streaming and Video Conferencing
The XS-62S is also suitable for live streaming systems and online video conferencing. Multiple PTZ cameras and computers can be easily managed by a small team or even a single person. PTZ camera control eliminates the need for individual camera operators, as everything can be controlled from the XS-62S while video is switched by the same operator. And with the XS-62S's audio capabilities, four microphones can be connected and mixed along with audio from computers and other video sources.
*To live stream with the XS-62S, you will need to add an encoder device with SDI or HDMI input, such as the Roland UVC-01.
VIDEO
The XS-62S video switcher can seamlessly switch six inputs, including 3G-SDI, HDMI, and analog sources (RGB, component, and composite), along with two still images stored in internal memory. Three video switching modes are available, allowing for a wide range of applications for the XS-62S.
Professional User Interface
The XS-62S is designed for direct control and intuitive operation at any event. The Cross Point buttons are professional, broadcast-quality, backlit, and brightness adjustment is available to adapt to daylight or dark performance spaces. A dedicated menu screen and audio volume knobs are easily accessible from the front panel.
Switching Modes
The XS-62S offers several switching modes for different applications.
PGM/PST Mode
PGM/PST mode functions as a traditional video switcher, complete with video composition features for grouping multiple images on a single screen. Create compositions by overlaying a title or graphic with DSK and inserting a PinP window. You can control compositions with the preview output and then send them live to the program output with a single click of the Take button. It is also possible to output different video content from the PGM bus and PST bus simultaneously.
Dissolve Mode
Video switching and cross-dissolve composition to the PGM bus is possible using Dissolve mode. It is easy to operate from the front panel, which makes it great for setups where the user directly operates the main unit in a meeting or event space. And like PGM/PST mode, it is possible to output different video content from the PGM bus and PST bus.
Matrix Mode
With Matrix Mode, you can send individual input video signals to different destinations on three buses. This is ideal for routing signals to multiple screens during events.
Video Composition
The PinP function provides traditional square and rectangular shapes, as well as circle, heart, and diamond shapes for unique effects. PinP cropping and center split adjustment are available, allowing you to customize the composition for tall vertical screens, such as those of smartphones and other sources. And with the DSK function, you can overlay titles, song lyrics, logos, and more on composed video. Both luminance key (black/white) and chroma key (blue/green) functions are available.
Multi-view Output
The XS-62S can preview all six video inputs, two still images, PGM, and PVW on a single monitor via the Multi-View output. You can also view the menu with Multi-View, allowing you to make settings without changing your focus from the preview display. As of Version 2.5, you can swap PGM/PVW windows and edit input label names.
Audio
The XS-62S features an 18-channel audio mixer with four TRS inputs and one stereo RCA input, plus de-embedded stereo audio from the six video inputs. A built-in audio effects library with Version 2.5 includes ready-to-use presets for common production scenarios, including interviews, ambient sound recordings, and wind noise removal.
High-Quality Sound Processing
Each audio channel on the XS-62S offers powerful preamplifier and dynamic processing functions, including a high-pass filter, gate, compressor, three-band EQ, and delay. An audio-follows-video function is also available, which automatically turns on an audio source when a specific video source is selected. A Solo bus was added with Version 2.0, and preamplifier/dynamics processing can be adjusted from the on-screen menu or accessed via the powerful RCS for Windows and macOS.
Auto Mixing
The auto-mixing function ensures proper mixing for multiple participants in round tables during conferences, automatically adjusting the levels of different audio sources and allowing the AV operator to focus on video switching. A specific weight assignment per channel can be set, which assigns a higher volume level to the moderator or priority audio channel.
Multi-Channel Audio Embedding
Embed up to eight analog audio inputs on separate channels on SDI outputs 1 and 2. Choose from a variety of feeds - pre-effect (dry), post-effect and pre-fader (wet) or post-effect and post-fader (wet) - to meet post-production needs after the live event. This feature is also useful for multi-language events, allowing you to record a voice-over or language translation on its own audio channel.
Other Features
Smart Tally
Roland's exclusive and proprietary wireless tally system allows you to send tally information from the XS-62S to iOS or Android devices on a wireless network via a LAN router.
Remote Control of Multiple PTZ Cameras
When LAN-based PTZ cameras are called into action, take control from the XS-62S panel or RCS on a computer. Seamlessly integrate JVC, Panasonic, Sony, PTZOptics, Avonic, and VISCA-compatible professional pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) robotic cameras to streamline your workflow without the need for a dedicated controller. For a game-like experience, grab a USB gamepad and conquer a team of PTZ cameras. Instincts will guide how cameras effortlessly cover the action.
To connect some portable Canon cameras to the RCS, a LAN connection can be used. In particular, the RCS panel supports the record start/stop function and tally light for some Canon cameras1
Remote Control
Use the intuitive remote control software (RCS) on a Mac or Windows computer to configure and control the XS-62S through its network port. Copy, store, and recall settings, back up settings, and more. You can also use the RS-232 and LAN ports to operate the XS-62S from a touch panel or other programmable interface device. With version 2.5, you can now use a USB MIDI controller or USB gamepad to control fader and PTZ functions
