Controller with 16 Motorized Faders
The SOLID STATE LOGIC NUCLEUS 2 DARK is a controller with 16 motorized faders, representing a unique offering for professional project studios with a perfect combination of advanced DAW control, transparent SuperAnalogueTM monitoring with talkback, SSL console-grade mic pres, a professional-grade Dante audio interface, and bundled Duende Native SSL plug-ins.
The SOLID STATE LOGIC NUCLEUS 2 DARK is a compact and portable desktop unit that creates a comfortable, efficient, and practical operating environment for music and film/TV DAW post-production. It provides everything needed to record and monitor audio and to control the DAW quickly and efficiently without resorting to the mouse. Nucleus2 simplifies your workflow and helps you focus on the sound, not the screen.
The SOLID STATE LOGIC NUCLEUS 2 DARK offers a unique combination of audio features. At its core is an SSL SuperAnalogueTM signal path that delivers reference-quality audio signal output to "main" and "alt" speaker sets via 4dBu connections. A high-quality 2+2 Ch Dante audio interface provides a recording and playback path for the DAW or connectivity to a larger Dante IP audio network. Two XLR Combi mic/line/instrument level inputs can simultaneously feed the audio interface and monitor outputs. Digital I/O via S/PDIF feeds the audio interface's AD/DA (pre-insert) allowing both a "digital to DAW" recording path and a "mic/line/instrument to digital" output path. The digital input can use channels 3 and 4 of the audio interface, so it can be recorded to separate channels in the DAW in parallel with the incoming analog mic/line/instrument inputs. A wet/dry control allows balancing of analog (and digital) input and DAW playback for zero-latency record monitoring. With Nucleus2, we've added a talkback input that feeds the headphones and activates a switchable -20 dB DIM on the monitor outputs. This input has adjustable gain and can be set to feed input 2 of the Dante sound card for remote communications across the network. The Nucleus2 mic pres are SSL SuperAnalogue mic pres, identical to those used on SSL Duality and AWS consoles and our X-Rack system, providing Nucleus2 with a professional standard transparent microphone recording path. The mic inputs have 80Hz high-pass filters, polarity reverse, and phantom power. A pair of insert send/return connections for incorporating external analog processing or effects pre-fader on the mic/line/instrument inputs, but can be switched into DAW playback for mixdown. An additional "external" stereo analog input provides a transparent SuperAnalogue monitor path for another audio interface or any other analog device. There is an accurate analog output level meter. A stereo minijack connection makes monitoring from an iPod or any other portable audio device simple. Two headphone outputs complete the monitoring options.
The SOLID STATE LOGIC NUCLEUS 2 DARK is based on concepts developed for the SSL Matrix. Up to 3 different DAWs can be connected simultaneously and switched between with a single button press. Nucleus2 uses HUI or MCU protocols ensuring compatibility with all major DAW applications including Pro Tools, Logic, and Cubase/Nuendo and can transmit MIDI CC data. Nucleus2 offers a complete set of dedicated and assignable hardware controls, easily customizable to user preferences, for all major DAW and plug-in parameters. Two banks of eight channels each provide; 100mm motorized faders, soft keys and fully user-definable V-Pots, dedicated Select/Solo/Cut buttons, and 10-point channel level meters. The Nucleus2 center section DAW controls provide; large heavy-duty transport buttons, a high-quality jog/shuttle wheel, bank/channel/level selection and global DAW parameter navigation/selection, and additional USB keyboard emulation buttons. The sleek Digital Scribble Strips LCDs, DAW audio level meters, auto-illuminating buttons, and LED status indicators ensure excellent visual feedback even in low light conditions. System configuration is done via a remote "SSL Logictivity" browser, which allows different sets of control profiles to be stored and recalled.
The SOLID STATE LOGIC NUCLEUS 2 DARK connects to the computer via high-speed Ethernet for DAW control and Dante Audio. It also has a USB connection and appears to the host computer as a standard keyboard allowing key command emulation. On the back, there are three USB ports that function as a USB hub. A standard jack footswitch connection is also included, and there's also an SD card slot for profile storage. Configuration and mapping of key commands and DAW commands are done via a remote "SSL Logicivity" browser, which allows different sets of control profiles to be stored and recalled.
Finally, the SOLID STATE LOGUS NUCLEUS 2 DARK includes the Duende Native Essentials bundle. This includes the new Duende Native VST/AU/AAX plug-in versions of the SSL EQ & Dynamics and Stereo Bus Compressor. The EQ & Dynamics Channel is the classic SSL console Channel Strip with 4-band parametric EQ, Compressor/Expander/Gate, high-pass and low-pass filters. The Duende Native Bus Compressor is the sound of the classic SSL G Series analog console stereo bus compressor in plug-in format.
