The SPL GainStation 1 approaches preamplification with the goal of significantly improving the input signal. Its compact design allows it to be placed outside a rack, for example near the microphone. A combination of 63dB of solid-state preamplification (+7dB with an optional Lundahl transformer) and 26dB from the tube stage (which can be bypassed) ensures a wide sonic palette.
The solid-state section is independent of the tube section, and they can be summed to add harmonics and characteristic tube saturation. Peak limiter or FET limiter via the tube stage. Switchable microphone impedance (200Ω, 1.2kΩ, and 10kΩ). Custom discrete components, Class A op-amps powered at 60V. 200 V/µs slew rate. Up to 4 units can be rack-mounted in a 19″ rack using an optional frame.
