SPL Phonitor 2 is a stereo preamplifier with 120V Rail technology, which makes its technical specifications a new standard in every respect: 141dB dynamic range, 107dB signal-to-noise ratio, -112 / -114 dB THD (headphone/speaker output with +30 dBu output level). Mind you, the THD measurements define the limits of the measuring equipment but not those of the Phonitor 2. However, SPL Phonitor 2 remains first and foremost a headphone preamplifier, given the elaborate speaker simulation for headphones. It works perfectly with low-impedance headphones with load impedances down to 10 Ohm (40 Ohm with balanced headphones). SPL Phonitor 2 is the first unit to employ SPL's second generation 120 V OPs with improved specifications. They have a signal-to-noise ratio of 116 dB and offer almost 34 dB of headroom, providing an unrivaled dynamic range of 150 dB. The OPs of SPL Phonitor 2 cannot be stressed under the most demanding circumstances, and precisely for this reason, their musical sound is always relaxed and spacious. All frequencies are reproduced in balance, bass is stable and tight, mids are clear and differentiated, and highs remain transparent and smooth. Particularly striking is the fact that every detail can be easily heard. Listening fatigue usually makes it harder to listen carefully and comprehend complex signals for a long period of time.
