24-track Digital Multitrack Recorder
TASCAM MODEL 24 is a complete 24-track Digital Multitrack Recorder and a 24-channel USB audio interface with integrated analog mixdown capabilities. From the stage to the studio.
The heart of the TASCAM MODEL 24 is the legendary TASCAM Portastudio multitrack recording engine. Offering quality and reliability that only TASCAM can deliver, the TASCAM MODEL 24 allows you to record and play back any combination of 24 tracks of digital audio, as well as quickly and easily perform overdubs and punch-ins.
At home, in a studio, or on the road, the TASCAM MODEL 24 is the ideal analog counterpart to a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). With enough inputs to capture an entire band in a single take, the TASCAM MODEL 24 provides quick and easy signal routing to and from the computer without having to break the patch and reset levels.
Featuring 12 mono input channels and 4 mono/stereo channels, the TASCAM MODEL 24 is flexible enough to support most bands on stage, yet compact enough to take to a gig. Low-noise, high-gain preamps, single-knob compressors (on selected channels), flexible routing, powerful EQ, and silky-smooth 100mm faders combine to offer a truly dynamic and real-time mixing experience. A 7-band EQ, two monitor sends, and integrated effects make the TASCAM MODEL 24 a truly powerful portable mixing solution, ready to take the stage (or studio). No confusing submenus, no lost presets, immediate control, and incredible analog sound quality.
Designed for road and studio use, the TASCAM MODEL 24 features four different channel strip configurations. The first two channels feature both an XLR input and a switchable line/instrument input. These are followed by a ¼" TRS Insert connector for easy patching of a compressor, EQ, or other effects.
These are followed by the Routing Mode selector, which is common to all channels and allows selection of an input of your choice: the live input signal, the return from a DAW channel, or the return from the internal multitrack to each channel for EQ, processing, and level control. It is worth noting that the Low Cut switch and the One-Knob compressor are both wired into the signal path before the routing mode selection. This ensures that recorded tracks fully utilize the Low Cut and Compressor setting functions.
Directly below this selector, and common to the first 12 channels, is a One-Knob compressor that helps to dynamically and easily tame dynamics during a live performance. Also common to the first 12 channels is a musical 3-band EQ with a variable midrange frequency.
Following the EQ section are a set of three auxiliary sends labeled Monitor 1, Monitor 2, and FX, which provide additional routing to foldback systems and effects.
Below that is the fader section which is consistent across the entire mixer. This large control area includes a Pan control, a backlit record enable switch, and a Mute button with an LED indicator showing engagement. Below these, the TASCAM MODEL 24 features a complete set of 100mm level faders and individual selectors for assignment to the Main Mix, subgroup, and Pre Fade Listen. Again, these are common to all channel strips.
Channels 3 - 12 have been optimized to feature XLR microphone and ¼" line level inputs.
Channels 13/14 - 19/20 are configured as stereo input channels and feature an XLR microphone input and two ¼" stereo inputs, with the Left input summing to Mono if the right input connector is not used. Given that these channels will typically be used for keyboards, drum machines, modular synthesizers, and effect processors, the audio controls have been simplified to remove the One-Knob compressor and to feature an intuitive fixed three-band EQ.
The final channel configuration - channel 21/22 - has been optimized for use with mobile devices and features Stereo RCA and 1/8" inputs as well as Bluetooth™ pairing. This channel has also been optimized to feed Monitor 1 and Monitor 2 via rotary auxiliary send controls.
The Master section of the TASCAM MODEL 24 has been designed for quick and intuitive use during live performances and monitoring. Directly at hand are high-quality 100mm faders for the Main Mix, both monitors and the sub-mix, as well as Mute and assignment buttons. Directly above are the controls for the integrated digital effects processor that allow you to add Reverb, Delay, Chorus, Flanger, and more to one or more sources and destinations.
