The Warm Audio WA-87 exclusively uses top-quality discrete components, such as Fairchild transistors and WIMA capacitors, a Cinemag output transformer (made in USA), and a custom Lens Kondensator reproduction of the classic K-87 dual-backplate/dual-diaphragm capsule, identical to that found in early models of the 87. The classic Neumann U87 is undoubtedly the most used large-diaphragm condenser microphone in history. Rather than basing the WA-87 circuit on current versions of this microphone, Warm Audio decided to meticulously recreate the designs of the early models, dating back almost half a century, which are most appreciated by sound engineers who have worked with all the subsequent versions, always preferring the warmer and softer sound of the first commercial units.
