Audio distribution: a neat and economical solution
Cranborne N22 is, at the same time, an audio distribution system via C.A.S.T. and a 4-channel Cat5 multicore.
Standalone cable management tool. Simply put, the N22 replaces 4 balanced XLR cables with a Cat 5 cable over distances up to 100m. Thanks to the C.A.S.T system, N22 is perfect for distributing audio in the studio or on stages with streamlined, cost-effective cabling, using a single Cat5 cable to carry a balanced analog audio signal to and from other compatible products (for example, another N22).
Advanced C.A.S.T. Breakout Box
Studios already using a Cranborne Audio audio interface can simply connect the N22 to the C.A.S.T. IN port, and audio connected to the N22's inputs will appear directly on the audio interface, ready to be recorded. The same type of Cat 5 C.A.S.T. connection can transmit a monitor mix generated by the interface directly to the balanced XLR and 1/4” Jack outputs for monitoring or reamping.
No cable clutter
The C.A.S.T. system replaces four balanced XLR cables with a single CAT 5 cable.
C.A.S.T (Cat 5 Analogue Signal Transport) uses the internal copper pairs of a Cat5 cable to transmit 4 channels over distances up to 100 meters.
Cranborne developed C.A.S.T. to create the perfect platform for audio distribution in studios and on stages, reducing cable clutter, improving sound performance, lowering costs, and enhancing flexibility in distributing audio channels. The C.A.S.T. system allows you to transform the classic cable mess into clean, tidy, and artful cabling.
C.A.S.T. Expander
Connect the N22 to the C.A.S.T. IN ports of a 500R8 or a 500ADAT: the audio present at the N22’s inputs will be sent directly to the interface to be recorded. Meanwhile, a stereo monitor mix generated by the 500R8/500ADAT will be routed from the same C.A.S.T. connection directly to the 1/4” jack and XLR line outputs.
Standalone Cat5 Multicore
You can replace bulky and expensive analog multicore cables by using two N22 units to transmit and receive audio between two different locations. For example, you can use an N22 connected to an audio interface to distribute a signal to a vocal booth, a live room, or, perhaps temporarily, a corridor to be sound-equipped using a single CAT5 cable.
Headphone audio distribution with N22H
The big brother of the N22 is the N22H. Equipped with all the features of the smaller model, but with reference quality and a high-power headphone amp.
Using the same design as the flagship 500R8, the N22H headphone amp is a crucial tool for engineers who want to drive their headphones properly.
By connecting an N22 with an N22H, the C.A.S.T. system can be used to transport headphone amplification wherever it is needed, with only a CAT5 cable. With an output impedance of 0.33 Ohm, up to 500mA of power per channel and low distortion (THD = 0.0003% at 1kHz), the N22H's headphone amp offers clean amplification with enough volume to drive any type of headphones. It can also be powered by a 9v battery or an external 9v power supply.
