Tape Emulator with Variable Silk and Soft Clip Limiter
The RUPERT NEVE DESIGN 542 is a Tape Emulator with Variable Silk and Soft Clip Limiter, considered a follow-up to the Portico 5042. Both modules provide perfect tape sound emulation thanks to the use of some of the same components found in analog recorders. The module contains a circuit identical to that of the hardware it emulates: the circuit sends the signal to a tiny magnetic "head" coupled with a specially equalized playback amplifier. The RUPERT NEVE DESIGN 542 True Tape Emulator also includes the variable Silk/Texture circuitry already present in the Portico II module series, which allows for detailed variation of the harmonic ratio and the tonality of the output transformer.
